Why Superman Deserves More Credit

Superman was meant to be DC’s icon, but ever since I can remember (I was born in 1991, so I am writing from the perspective of a 90s baby), Batman has been carrying DC as its most popular character. I credit that to a couple of factors: The first factor is that Batman is edgier and darker than Superman. The second factor is the success of the 1989 movie and The Animated Series that ran from 1992 to 1995. The third factor is that he is an overall badass who helps get the Justice League out of just about every situation. As a result of these factors, social media have pretty much turned Batman into a god. This attained godhood usually comes at the expense of Superman, Batman’s usual crossover partner. Just because Batman is more “badass” and “cooler” than Superman, the “boy scout,” does not mean that Superman is not an awesome character. Below are reasons why Superman is awesome.

He Has Awesome Fight Scenes

Superman vs. Ace

Ace's strength is depicted as significantly above that of a normal human, able to lift heavy objects and deliver powerful blows. Superman made viewers forget that Ace had super strength as he takes every blows from this android.

Superman vs. Green Lantern and Batman
He very easily humbled Green Lantern and made Batman look way too human.

Superman vs. Darkseid
DC Comics meets Dragonball Z. This is awesome because Darkseid, on a normal day, is one of the strongest beings in the DC universe, but in this episode, he also had the combined strength of one of Superman's biggest adversaries, Brainiac. Superman also addressed how he has to show restraint on a daily basis.

He's Not All About the Fight Scenes, Though

Some of Superman’s greatest moments do not come from his fights. He represents the good in humanity. He shows that no matter how powerful we are, we all have obstacles to overcome, but he also shows us that they can be overcome through positivity and perseverance.

Superman Schools Manchester Black

Superman schooled Manchester Black in more than one way. He showed him just how strong he is, but he also taught Manchester and Metropolis a lesson while showing them who’s boss. This fight showed why Superman is significant. Manchester Black was a pessimistic anti-hero who hated those with moral concepts, like Superman. Superman beating him by the use of non-lethal force showed us that social responsibility and positivity are important concepts to carry with us.

No Mission Is Too Small for Superman

In this awesome scene from All-Star Superman, Superman encounters a young girl named Regan, teetering on the edge of a building, contemplating suicide. With a gentle yet firm presence, Superman reassures her that her doctor genuinely was delayed and that things are never as dire as they seem. He tells her, "You're much stronger than you think you are," offering her the trust and encouragement she desperately needs. This moment encapsulates Superman's role as a beacon of hope and compassion, demonstrating his ability to save lives not just through physical strength but through emotional support and kindness.
